International Summit to Target Global Trade and Investment
Governor of Maharashtra to Inaugurate


Mumbai will witness an elite gathering of international leaders, royalty, economists, heads of industry and dignitaries at the Global Economic Summit on Trade & Investment, 2010, from January 20th to 22nd at the Taj Mahal Palace & Towers.

Organised by the All India Association of Industries (AIAI) and World Trade Centre (WTC) Mumbai, the Summit will focus on optimal trade and investment opportunities  of over 25 participating nations spearheaded by India as an economic power house.

The Summit will be inaugurated by the Hon’ble Governor of Maharashtra, His Excellency Mr.S.C. Jamir and HRH Prince Michael of Kent – UK and Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra Mr. Chhaghan Bhujbal will be the Guests of Honour on the 20th January,2010.

The Hon’ble  Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Mr.Ashok Chavan, as Chief Guest will deliver the keynote address during the opening session on Infrastructure on 21st  January, 2010. Other eminent speakers include Mr. Gurudas Kamat, Minister of State for Telecommunications – Government of India, Ms.Suvi Linden,Minister of Communications – Finland, Mr. Rajendra Darda, Minister of Industries – Government of Maharashtra will also address the session, besides other Experts.

Key topics for discussion will be Development of Integrated  Infrastructure on Ports , Roads, ICT and Power.  The session would be addressed by Mr.K. Mohandas, Secretary, Ministry of Shipping, Mr.H S. Brahma, Secretary, Ministry of Power and Dr. Pramod Deo, Chairman, CERC, Government of India. Presentations by Experts from leading Corporate houses and Port Authorities from India and Overseas will deliberate on current issues.

A special session on the Trade and Investment Opportunities in Maharashtra and Gujarat will be held on 21st January, 2010. The Maharashtra session will be presented by Mr. Azeez Khan, Principal Secretary - Industries, Government of Maharashtra and the Gujarat session will be presented by Industrial Extension Bureau (iNDEXTb) – Gujarat.

Sectoral presentations will highlight the Food Processing and Agro industries, Biotechnology, Infrastructure, Energy,Financial Services and Corporate Governance.Mr. Salman Khurshid, Minister of State (IC) – Ministry of Corporate Affairs – Government of India has been invited to chair the session on Financial Services and Corporate Governance. 

HRH Prince Michael of Kent of UK would be inaugurating the opening session on International Investment Opportunities. Ms. Preneet Kaur, Minister of State for External Affairs – Government of India will be the Guest of Honour on this occasion. Other eminent speakers include Mr. Bidhu Jha, Member Legislative Assembly (Radisson)and Special Envoy of International Trade, Government of Manitoba, Canada, Mr. Ron W. MacKinley, Minister for Transportation & Public Works, Province of Prince Edward Island, Canada, Mr. Joachim Kiefaber, State Secretary and Member of the Saarland State Government, Germany, Mr. Brian Hayes, Special Envoy to India, Australia, Mr.Leszek Wojtajsiak,Marshal,Wielkopolska,Poland & Dr. Yahya Ale-Eshagh, President – Tehran Chamber of Commerce, Industries & Mines.

Mr. Sachin Pilot – Minister of State for Communication and IT - Government of India has been invited to deliver the valedictory address and Mr. Suresh Shetty, Minister for Environment and Protocol and Mr. J. P. Dange, Chief Secretary – Government of Maharashtra will be the Guests of Honour.

The participants are a spectral composite of developed and developing nationslike UK, Russia, Germany, France, Switzerland, Japan, Hongkong, Belgium, Canada, Australia, Italy and Finland alongwith Romania ,Bangladesh, Iran, Poland, Jordan and Burkina Faso among others. This will ensure strategic opportunities for maximising business information exchanges with mutual benefits.

Pre-scheduled B2B meetings will be organised as a special value feature of the summit to facilitate corporate alliances and partnerships. The Summit will focus on the SME sector, ports, infrastructure, power industries and the incorporation of corporate social responsibility (CSR).
